How does ADHD affect life?

ADHD can affect many areas of life, from focus and organisation to emotional regulation, relationships and self-esteem. For some adults, these patterns have been present for years without being fully recognised or understood.

You may find yourself feeling stuck, overwhelmed or frustrated by patterns that are difficult to shift, even when you are trying hard to make changes. No matter where you are on your journey with ADHD it is never too late to start learning about how to make life easier.

How does ADHD affect love?

When one partner in a relationship has ADHD, feelings of love can start to feel like complex and uncertain. Love is founded upon many things - trust, intimacy communication and connection. For some couples, feelings of love can break down when ADHD symptoms and the partners response to them, overrun the relationship.

You may find yourselves having the same arguments repeatedly, feeling misunderstood, disconnected or frustrated despite genuinely caring about one another. What often looks like a relationship problem can sometimes be linked to the way ADHD is showing up beneath the surface.

No matter where you are in your relationship journey, it is never too late to build greater understanding, strengthen communication and develop strategies that work for both partners.

Finding time to understand what living with ADHD
really means for you  is the first step to feeling better.

Where to start with ADHD?

Have you asked yourself any of these questions?

  • Why do I feel different to other people?

  • Why am I feeling anxious and overwhelmed?

  • Why am I in same arguments or relationship patterns?

  • Do I actually have ADHD or something else?

  • What else is there besides medication for ADHD?

  • How can I get stuff done and stop avoiding tasks?

  • What can I read or listen to that will help with executive functioning?

  • What should I do as a partner or parent?
